According to www.lenta.ru, the Reporters without Borders international organization has issued an annual report on the freedom of Internet, calling Belarus one of the governments which ‘still alternate between censorship and harassment of Internet users’, albeit refraining from placing it on the list of top Internet enemies.
On 25 february the court of Tsentralny district of Homel Maryna Damnenka fined members of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Zmitser Karmazin and Aleh Razhkou 20 basic units (700,000 Br, or USD 245).
Independent journalists have been called responsible for “violation of the rules of holding street rallies”, though they were just collecting information about the rally in support of the native language on February 21, Radio Svaboda informs.
On 12 December Iuye district court held a repeated trial concerning ‘extremist articles’ in August issue of the unregistered newspaper Svaboda. According to the lawyer Pavel Sapelka, who represented the newspaper’s interests at the trial, the court rejected the suit of Ihar Siarheyenka, head of Hrodna oblast KGB department, as no extremist articles have been found in the issue in question.
