In case all the amendments and changes are approved by the Deputies, then two laws are 40 articles of the Electoral Code will have to be corrected.

His findings are absolutely accurate and indisputable!

In fact, freedom of speech, thought, information dissemination, as well as freedom of association and peaceful assembly … are only real prerequisites for the normal existence of civil society, the existence of different public stances and public dialogue in it. Harassment of human rights activists in Belarus…

Vitebsk human rights activist Leanid Svetsik has been punished by the system with the greatest fine of 34 million rubles on charges, which were immediately used by the official state media for fomenting resentment and hatred, further discrimination of the Belarusian society.

In this case, the target of a company of discredit appeared to be an active in its relations with the UNCHR Vitebsk human rights activist, an activist of the Belarusian civil society, whose very honorable mission of a human rights activist was damaged.  Continue reading »

On 20 October during a meeting with President Lukashenka, head of the Central Electoral Committee Mrs. Lidziya Yarmoshyna spoke on the changes to be introduced to the Belarusian electoral legislation. Political parties, whose member wants to run in the election, will not have to possess a regional office within the territory of the respective constituency. Besides, signature sheets will not have to be approved by local authorities before their submission to the Central Electoral Committee. Grounds for denying registration to a candidate will also be reviewed. Apart from that, voter turnout quota will be lifted in the upcoming local elections. However, the quota for presidential and parliamentary elections will be preserved. Continue reading »

Мікулін АляксандрOn 27 August 2008 the Electoral Committee of Vitsebsk Electoral District #21 refused to register Aliaksandr Mikulin running for the Parliament. Mr.Mikulin disagreed on the decision, guided by the following reasons:
- Under Article 62-1 of the Belarusian Electoral Code, he applied for registration as a candidate for deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, representing the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) and its local office on the territory of the constituency.
