Франак ВячоркаThe command of the military unit in Mozyr gave a disciplinary punishment to regular soldier Franak Vyachorka on July 23.

His leave over the whole period of service will be reduced to 5 days (the next more strict punishment is detention). Youth activist Franak Vyachorka was punished for giving a command “Attention” in Belarusian instead of Russian.

The punishment was initiated by psychologist senior lieutenant Dzyanis Kazak. Major Uladzimir Ihnatsik, deputy commander of battalion for ideology is responsible for the punishment, the press service of the BPF party reports. It is the first time in the history of the independent Republic of Belarus when a Belarusian soldier has been punished for speaking Belarusian.

“Senior lieutenant Kazak and warrant officer Piskun started persecuting Franak for the Belarusian language about a month ago,” Vintsuk Vyachorka, youth activist’s father and deputy head of the BPF party, said. “Unfortunately, the battalion chief in Mozyr and brigade commander in Baranavichy are on hiolidays. I phone lieutenant colonel Syarhei Hrysyuk in Baranavichy, the brigade deputy commander on ideology, who now acts as a commander. I warned him about violations of the Constitution and the Criminal Code, I see in persecuting my son and asked him to stop the “language terror” and discrimination in Mozyr. I see my appeal had no effect.”

Vintsuk Vyachorka plans to go to the prosecutor’s office on grounds of violation of article 130 of the Criminal Code – stirring up, race, national, religious hatred.

In July 2008, the medical board of the Savetski district military enlistment office in Minsk found Franak Vyachorka unfit for military service on medical grounds. The regional medical board called this decision into question. The guy was examined in hospital and got a determent till March 2009. But on January 16, the Savetski district military enlistment office drafted the youth activist into the army. The court upheld this decision on January 23. The court judgement was delivered in absence of the youth activist and his lawyer. Franak Vyachorka was forcefully drafted for the military service in late January.
