Ikony staraverau, Vietka (Belarus)The editorial board of the Belarusian Legal Portal (by.prava-by.info) learned about the appeal for support in distribution of information concerning facts of violation of rights and freedoms of Russian citizens.

Even without deepening in the details of the appeal that was put at the Open Communicator of the Portal, the participants of human rights process can see the activation of the processes connected with deterioration of the situation of human rights (restriction of the freedom of thought, conscience and religion, dissemination of the appropriate information and convictions related to religious rights and teachings, realization of the right to association with like-minded people and fellow believers) in our neighbor country.

It seems that the old problem of harassment of Old Believers is aggravating in Russia, which witnesses the craving for total control of the society and strengthening of the only ‘correct’ Moscow Orthodox hierarchy, which is a key interest for the ruling oligarchic superstructure (regime) and the intensified ideological influence on the society, and the chauvinistic interest of widening the Russian influence on the neighboring ‘territories’…

There are many examples in the history of the Great Principality of Lithuania and Belarus (for which the Great Principality of Lithuania is the historical ancestral home) when Old Believers, refugees from Russia escaping from harassment and physical liquidation, found shelter on the territory of tolerant Belarus (including religious tolerance). In some places such groups of refugees even established their settlements. In particular, in Homel oblast there is the town Vetka. After Chernobyl accident many dwellers of Vetka moved to different towns and cities of Belarus including Minsk and Zhodzina…

Judging by the appeal that we got from Russia, the forces that are inspired with clearly imperialistic and authoritatively-repressive thinking are getting stronger and more active. In the conditions of multi-confessional country (with predomination of Orthodox Christianity and Islam) such excessive activity (probably, still within the frames of Christian confession) can be a sinister signal for other confessions, believers and the society in general…

Of course, the state must protect its citizens from destructive totalitarian sects and put boundaries to socially dangerous extremism in order to decrease the risk of material and moral harm, but the struggle of the state against ‘incorrect’ Christianity on the side of the ‘correct’ one witnesses a real shattering of principles in the society, signalizing its shift to total control and the use of religious faith as a weapon, a means of ideological influence and expansion, or a completely different, integral kind of extremism – ‘pro-regime-ideological-religious’.

However, does not belong to the powers delegated to the state by the citizens, because the human spirit, soul and mind, the right to choose faith and convictions are not in the competency of a religious confession (even such a mighty one as the Orthodox Christian one), they do not ensue from the chauvinistic Moscow course on correct Russian world messianism…

In any case, such a signal from the neighboring Russia witnesses, that the stark reality of the Russian life, completely different from normal and civilized one, becomes visible through the TV screens of ‘glamorous democracy’ (a new post-Soviet invention – the concept of CONTROLLED or REGULATED DEMOCRACY).

You are welcome to express your opinions, disseminate and specify the information…
