On the 28th of March of present year the United Nations Human Rights Committee recognized that authorities of the Republic of Belarus violated rights of member of Zhlobin region organization of the Belarusian Left Party “A Just World” Uladzimier Kirsanau on holding a peaceful assembly by prohibiting him to hold a picket in Zhlobin in order to attract attention of the society to the problems of liquidation of political parties and non-governmental organizations in the country.

The decision of the UN in question is already available on the internet in the Russian language.

Unfortunately the 77 year old man haven’t received the decision, he died several years ago. He was represented in the Committee by the Head of Homel Center for Strategic Litigation Leanid Sudalenka.

Uladzimier Kirsanau appealed to the UN after he hadn’t found the protection of his rights inside the country. Executive committee of Zhlobin prohibited him and other activists to hold a series of public events in the center of the regional center in connection with proscription of Ministry of Justice on operation of Belarusian Communist Party (now it’s Belarusian Left Party “A Just World”) for six months. Then local authorities demanded for paying for services of police, ambulance and communal public services.

On the grounds of the decision of the United Nations Human Rights Committee the Government has to provide “the victims of violation with effective means of legal defense, including full cost recovery and adequate compensation” and also is obliged “to prevent similar violations in the future”.

The decision made is to published in the official mass media by the Government of Belarus in the Belarusian language as well, and to be fulfilled in 180 days.
