Human rights activist Ales Bialiatski was arrested in August 2011, before the trial was kept in militia investigation centre # 1 – on Valadarski Street in Minsk (former Pischalov castle), then in jail in Zhodzina, and then in the colony # 2 in Babruisk. And here is the third spring behind bars.

In a letter dated March 1, Ales Bialiatski writes:

– Exactly two years have passed since I have been brought to Babruisk. It’s a one more memorable date. And it will be the third Babruisk spring. Last week the events in Ukraine occupy my attention and thoughts: mostly about how they would go on ….

Ales Bialiatski is the Vice-President of FIDH, the head of the Human Rights Centre “Viasna”. Courageous and consistent position of Ales Bialiatski to uphold human rights in Belarus and worldwide was noted by many international awards. Ales Bialiatski was nominated five times for the Nobel Peace Prize, and in 2007, 2012 and 2013 his candidacy was included in the short list of the Nobel Prize.
