On 14 July Uladzimir Malei, member of the Human Rights Center Viasna from Malaryta, lodged a complaint with the Malaryta District Procuracy concerning unlawful actions of the police officers who had detained him on 13 July in the evening.
According to Mr. Malei, he was detained on 13 July while sitting on a bench on the square together with some acquaintances. “At about 7.40 p.m. I was approached by policemen who detained me for “identification”. Having checked my documents at the police department, they stated that they already had the information that I had agitated people to come to the central square of Malaryta on 3 July,” says the human rights defender.
Mr. Malei was released from the police department at about 8.50 p.m. without getting any charges.
