On January 10, 2011 searches happened at the office of an independent news paper “Barysauskiya Naviny” and at the residential place of the chief editor of the news paper A. U. Bukas. The searches were executed in the frame of the criminal case of the so-called “rioting” connected with provocation during the peaceful assembly against election fraud of December 19, 2010 at the Nezalezhnasti sq in Miensk.

As a result of these searches all the equipment, print programs and accounting basis necessary for the editorial office’s work were confiscated. It’s important to note that editorial office’s stuff didn’t participate in the events of December 19 and can’t be connected with what had happened at that time in Miensk.

So, in spite of the executed searches had been groundless, they have totally paralyzed work of the editorial office of the independent mass media.

The editor in chief lodged a complaint about these events to the Procuracy. For assuming certain measures and resuming normal work of the editorial office lawyers of the news paper sent a message to the UN Special Rapporteur on the questions of involvement and defense of freedom of opinions and their free expression.
