It’s almost impossible to register a new general interest media today. Representatives of regional newspapers which were refused state registration managed to gain a hearing with the First Deputy Minister of Information Lilia Ananich. But the meeting didn’t any positive result to journalist. The lawyer of Belarusian Association of Journalists, doctor of legal sciences Mikhal Pastukhou comments the situation.

Quoting the expert, state registration limits possible activity of mass media. The process is difficult, long-termed and contradicts freedom of speech principles. Authorities refuse state registration referring not only to the Law “About mass media” but to some additional by-law regulations. The last ones in fact abrogate some regulations of law and introduce new requirements to registration of newspapers.

-That’s why no matter how hard we have tried to fight for truth and justice, these attempts must be continued in nowadays conditions. And the problem can be easily solved – the registration just must be revoked, – suggests Mikhal Pastukhou.

Professor thinks that our state can control mass media. But only in the cases when journalists violate law. These are the principles of justice.
