Baranavichy city executive committee will no longer require the organizers of street actions to pay the job of police officers, ambulance and firefighters in advance. This decision of local authorities was announced today at a board meeting of the regional court of Brest region.

Baranavichy human rights activist Siarhei Housha and lawyer Karney Piatrovich came to Brest to the meeting of the court. They complained about the unlawful actions of the Baranavichy city executive committee. Officials demanded that the organizers of street actions have paid in advance (for a week ahead) accounts of police, fire and ambulance services.

Judicial panel of Nina Ustsinchuk, Heorhi Dzmitruk (chairman) and Anatol Litouchyk informed the applicant that this problem no longer exists.

“As it turned out, the Brest Regional Court received yesterday a new solution of Baranavichy city executive committee. A pre-payment was canceled in it. I think it is a recognition of our truth. Thus, officials admitted that they illegally demanded an advance payment,” lawyer Siarhei Housha said to “Svadoda”.

He believes that the activists got a small victory. Success can be continued. Siarhei Housha reasons:

“We have asked the Regional Board to come up with proposals to amend the law on mass events. This law is unconstitutional. We should not enter into contracts with the police, emergency, etc. This should be made by the authority, because every citizen who works pays taxes, which support exactly the government and its bureaucracy.”
